Colombia and the U.S. sign cooperation memorandum on security to combat customs-related crimes (3:53 p.m.). (National Tax and Customs Directorate – DIAN, Press Release, 05/22/2019)

DIAN and the United States Department of Homeland Security (DHS), through U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), signed a memorandum of understanding aimed at enhancing security between both countries. The agreement focuses on preventing customs-related crimes, monitoring criminal networks, and addressing cross-border criminal activities through the exchange and analysis of cargo manifests and transportation data. Additionally, a review and evaluation mechanism will be established to identify potential risks and threats to the national security of both countries, including transnational criminal activities.

The Director of DIAN, José Andrés Romero, stated, “This cooperation will improve the identification and tracking of cargo, transportation, and companies that may pose a risk or be involved in transnational crimes.”
